A Lesson in Humility and Generosity Among Other Things…

Last Saturday, our little nine year old sister of very modest means walked on her own to the Kingdom Hall to meet the group for service.  She is the middle of three children belonging to a single mother in our congregation.  Her mother was working and the older sister was home watching her younger brother.  However, our little sister's bag was well prepared, she was neatly dressed, and she was ready to work in the ministry with anyone.  She was invited by Chad to join our group in a territory near our home.  Before leaving the Hall, she handed each of us a yarn bracelet she had braided as a gift.  Since it was made with hot pink yarn, I got two.  We parked our bikes at our house and set out on foot with this little sister and two others door to door.  After we had completed the territory for the morning, Chad and I walked her home.  On the way, she pulled out an envelope with little dollar signs drawn all over it.  I asked her why she had taken it out of her bag, thinking maybe she needed to stop by a store.  She replied, "I want to buy you and Chad a lollipop."  I was so deeply touched.  She only had a few dollar bills and she wanted to spend them on us.  Of course, we thanked her and explained that she should save the money for the next time she was in service instead.  I share this simple experience because it is just one example of how appreciative the young ones here are of the truth.  They are kind, respectful, humble, and generous.  You would think they should be learning from us, but we are the ones being taught so many valuable lessons.

We really settled into our new routine this week.  It has been going well.  The weather has been dreary the past few days, but rain here equals water in your cistern and we get excited about that.  We leave tomorrow afternoon for Provo for our Special Day Assembly.  We are staying with a young couple there and will return Sunday.  We are very excited!  Chad will be the chairman for the afternoon session.  He is quickly gaining responsibilities and being useful in the congregation.  He will now be conducting the Watchtower and serving as the Service Overseer.  He will give a talk every third Sunday in addition to other weekly parts.  I have already substituted as a householder and have my first official talk in May.  I will also be on the rotation for reading the Watchtower on Sundays.  We look forward to the experience we will gain over the next year.

We hope all is well back home and still welcome calls and messages from everyone!  We thank those who have been in touch.  It is nice staying connected with friends and family.  More updates and pictures to come after the assembly.  I leave you with this image of humbled feet :)  Trust me, they are often much worse than you see here.
